Rhinoceros is a commercial 3D computer graphics and computer-aided design (CAD) application software developed in 1980. Rhino geometry is based on the NURBS mathematical model, which focuses on producing mathematically precise representation of curves and freeform surfaces in computer graphics (as opposed to polygon mesh-based applications).
Rhinoceros is used in CAD, CAM, prototyping, 3D printing and reverse engineering in industries including architecture, industrial design, product design, jewelry design as well as for multimedia and graphic design.
A lot of cool stuffs you can achieve with Rhino! But Rhino is still the tool for Industrial Design.
Polygonal modeling : Blender; 3ds Max
Freeform surface modelling : Alias, Rhino
What is NURBS?
The point of Nurbs is to use curves to make faces, so that you can get more accurate surfaces, which is very suitable for the streamlined type in the product.
Nurbs draws lines first and then polygons, and polygons are drawn out of geometry. A easy way to understand is that the Nurbs is to build the frame and then build the wall, the Polygonal modeling is to extrude the clay.
